Leikeli47

It’s seldom that a new artist emerges tohelpshift the landscape of what’s happening  in music; onethat  not  only  has  the  ability to embrace current sounds but take those sounds to a place that others haven’t yet dared. One artist that is quickly solidifying herself as music’s next trailblazer is Leikeli47. Leikeli47 (pronounced Leh-Kay-Lee) made her musical introduction by debuting her self-produced mixtape, Lk-47. Her 11-track mixtape garnered initial  buzz due to the hard-hitting tomboy anthem “Miss America.” The rebellious New Yorker whom is celebrated across the pond by BBC 1XTRA’s Sarah-Jane Crawford, had a slew of her  tracks featured for Sarah-Jane’s “Smash of the Week.” Her music also caught the attention of UK DJ/radio personality, Lily Mercer, who introduced  Leikeli's electric boom bap sound to her Rinse FM audience. Following Lk-47, the self-proclaimed “communicator” frivolously worked on her follow-up project, Lk-47 pt.II, which premiered via The Fader in January 2014. The tape opens with a chilling narrative from the film, The Dark Knight Rises, and showcases 47’s diverse musical talent,  fiery lyrical delivery, energetic spirit and ability to humbly correlate her musical journal to legendary underdogs that include Michael Jordan and Tom Brady. Tracks and visuals including the fan favorites - “C&C”, “Elian’s Theme, Based on a True Story” pushed 47 to gain further attention from industry insiders and media coverage including: Rolling Stone, MTV, Billboard, Spin, I-D, Complex and HypeTrak. In the summer of 2014, Billboard exclusively premiered her explosive self-produced chune, “F*ck The Summer Up.” The furious track caught the attention of  EDM  heavyweights, Skrillex and Diplo, who began to feature 47’s songs on their “Diplo Approved,” and “Skrillex Selects” SoundCloud accounts. To further support 47’s burgeoning career, the duo enlisted her as one of their surprise performers during their 2014 New Year’s Eve Jack Ü concert at Madison Square Garden.
Lk-47 was the featured soundtrack for Duckie Brown's androgynous S/S 14 line  during  NYFW. After dropping her  stomp heavy track, "Two Times a Charm," her music took no time at all to hit  the runway once again at the Cushnie Et Ochs' S/S 15 NYFW show.
The visual for "Two Times a Charm" was later selected by Brooklyn Magazine as their "Best Video of 2014."

“Brooklyn lives on Leikeli47's tongue, spitting rhymes reminiscent of her legendary lyrical predecessors… She's not here for her face; she's here for her bars, and that anonymity has garnered her visibility.” –I-D

“...equal parts old school shit-talk and women's studies-level pontification - free of the messianic responsibilities often placed on the shoulders of buzzing female MCs.” -SPIN

“Lk-47 Pt. IIis a scattershot blast, but it promises plenty.” –Rolling Stone

“Leikeli47 has been generating well-deserved buzz for songs that often combine throbbing boom bap productions with braggadocio-laced rhymes that occasionally drop the smack talk in favor of lyrics veering into gender politics territory.” –PAPER

“Leikeli47...who cloaks her identity in perpetual ski masks, debuts her cocky, impressively varied Lk-47 pt. II mixtape.” –The Fader

Speakerfoxxx

“Some people are just filled with so much to give the world...I feel like that.” - Speakerfoxxx

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Nilan aka “Speakerfoxxx” is a nationally-respected DJ, and globally-emerging brand to match. In just four years the self-taught DJ has built a resume that includes a wide spectrum of residencies from the swanky W Hotel to the smoky underground Hip Hop Atlanta hideout El Bar as well as monthly residencies at both Insert Coin in Vegas & FDR at The Delano in Miami. Until it closed its doors, Speakerfoxxx also held a secured residency as the only female DJ on NYC's East Village Radio's show "Ballers Eve."

Speakerfoxxx boasts a diverse musical upbringing that saw her singing the church choir and playing in the school band. She learned to play both piano and ukulele by age five and began playing guitar at age 12. In middle school she played in the jazz band and in high she played in a number of punk rock bands she formed herself.

“I was always a fast learner as a kid,” she admits. “I don’t like not being good at something, so I put my all into learning something when I try it. So that works to my advantage.”

As a teen and early 20-something, Speakerfoxxx fell deep into the party and live music scene like most people her age. But eventually, she grew fonder of the DJs controlling the crowd than the artists and the drinks. So in 2005 she began spending all of her spare time collecting records and saving money to purchase her first pair of turntables. From there spent hours on end practicing the craft and landed her first gig at a local pool hall within months.

Her unique ear for music, skills and demand for female DJs at the time opened doors to more gigs almost immediately as she began spinning at Atlanta hotspots where patrons included the city’s cutting edge artists, creatives and innovators. Which makes sense seeing as how beyond DJing, Speakerfoxxx is also a skilled visual artist and former tattoo apprentice, painter & photographer who was accepted into the Savannah School of Art and Design in 11th grade and was offered scholarships from New York City’s top art schools including Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design and the School of Visual Arts. She however landed in Decatur, Georgia’s all women’s school Agnes Scott College on scholarship where she majored in Fine Arts and Africana Studies with a Spanish minor.

After traveling around the country as an official tour DJ for the likes of Yelawolf, Rittz and Three 6 Mafia's Gangsta Boo, Speakerfoxxx is now adding festival DJ to her resume having played parties and sets at Miami’s Art Basel, South By Southwest, A3C Hip Hop Festival and TomorrowWorld. Her ability to explore different musical genres has also landed her gigs for corporate brands like Porsche, Fader, Livemixtapes, Redbull and Microsoft, private parties for celebrities like Justin Bieber and Vashtie and at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. In 2011 Speakerfoxxx was awarded "Best Unsigned Female DJ" and in 2012 named "Atlanta's Best DJ." In 2013, The former Aphiliates founders--Don Cannon, DJ Drama & DJ Sense--inducted Speakerfoxxx to become a member of their new DJ crew--The Academy--made up of top DJs from around the country.

“I always try to pay homage to the music that came out before,” she says. “It’s real important to me to not just go up there and play the Top 40 songs. I want to link the history of music together.”

Speakerfoxxx is also making efforts to link her love of music with her love for fashion. The professional hairdresser and fashion curator made history in 2013 when she collaborated with fashion designers Dee & Ricky for a first-of-its-kind music and fashion mixtape. She has also played after-parties for top designers at NY Fashion Week & was recently featured in Style.com as a "Best New DJ in The Fashion World." Her creative ambitions also include a series of art and photography books she plans to release in 2015.

“When you are a true artist, the medium may change, but it doesn’t matter what you do, you’ll always be an artist,” she says. “I’m DJing, participating in the fashion world and doing hair. I think they work hand in hand with one other.”

Whether it’s a record, paintbrush or pair of shears, whatever Speakerfoxxx’s gold-ringed hands have touched have turned into just that...gold.
